Our Story, Mission, and Values

Our Story

In March 1995 a group of Swiss Nationals visited Sikkim. Besides the natural beauty of Sikkim they were overwhelmed with the number of needy and underprivileged children. Moved by their plight they made a personal commitment to help these children. To facilitate this process the Children of Sikkim Foundation was established in Switzerland.

In one of their many visits to Sikkim, they met Padmashri Keepu Tsering Lepcha who was also taking care of underprivileged children in her home. It was only a matter of time that partnership was forged to work for the common cause of the needy and underprivileged children of Sikkim. To fullfill the needs of the growing number of children, the Human Development Foundation of Sikkim was established on 23rd December 1997 as a secular, non-profit organization. In the process Miss Keepu donated the land at Chongey Tar where the present Children’s Village stands today.

Our Mission

To enable the needy and underprivileged children to grow up to their full potential , self reliant , productive and caring citizen of the state by providing education and vocational training opportunities

Objectives

Provide safe, secure and caring homes for the underprivileged children
of Sikkim where they will be educated and nurtured to become responsible citizens of the State.
Sensitize and assist children to secure livelihood options and inculcate in them the value, dignity, honour and spirituality in honest work
Retain, preserve, enhance and integrate sikkimese culture, tradition and lifestyle in the daily lives of children.
Voice the concerns of these children through credible communication channel so their predicament is brought to the attention of the public and the government.

How to support us

A charity organization like HDFS requires significant financial support for its upkeep and day to day operations.

Even though Children of Sikkim Foundation, Switzerland (COSF) bears a large part of the cost, there stills exists a big gap that needs to be bridged through contributions. You have an opportunity to bring a smile among these children.
